Sydney truckie Emmanuel Xiberras denies causing the death of a pedestrian and failing to stop.

The son of a Sydney woman allegedly fatally struck by a truck on a pedestrian crossing in 2016 has told a court he offered to drive her home that day but she declined and decided to walk.

Nicholas Thwaites gave evidence on Wednesday at the NSW District Court jury trial of truck driver Emmanuel Xiberras.

Xiberras, 38, has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving occasioning death and failing to stop and assist after the Brookvale crash that killed Jo-Ann Thwaites on May 20.

Mr Thwaites told the court his 61-year-old mother had dropped her car off to be serviced that morning and he offered to drive her home, but she wanted to walk and do some shopping.
