Bill to end live exports winning support

A report into the northern summer live sheep export trade is yet to be released.

There will be no "knee-jerk" reaction to a report into the live sheep export trade, with a federal Cabinet minister insisting the Turnbull government won't immediately make the findings public.

A report by livestock veterinarian Michael McCarthy is now with the government, but its findings and recommendations are yet to be released.

"The key thing we would like to avoid is making the same mistake as has been made in the past, as has been made by the former Labor government and seemingly repeated by the Labor opposition today, and that is not to make a knee-jerk response here," Resources Minister Matt Canavan told ABC radio on Wednesday.
