Police are treating a house fire and explosion that killed three people in Brisbane as suspicious.

Three people are dead after an explosion and fire tore through a home on Brisbane's northside.

Two females and one male died in what police have called a suspicious incident at a home at Everton Hills early on Tuesday, but no ages have been provided.

Police say neighbours heard an explosion before flames engulfed the property on Pavonia Street.

The fire forced the evacuation of some neighbouring properties.

"... it was a loud explosion. Quite significant and the neighbour that heard that explosion contacted the police," a police spokesman told reporters at the scene.

"I'm told that the fire could be seen from a fair distance away and it was the flames and the smoke that actually led people to the address."
