Vic govt's near-$500m AFL cash splash

April 12, 2018

The Victorian government will spend almost $500 million on upgrading the state's AFL stadiums.

Victoria's AFL stadiums will get $500 million in state-funded upgrades, with nearly half of the cash going to a makeover of Etihad stadium, according to multiple reports.

More than $240 million will go into upgrading suburban and regional grounds, including making Ikon Park in Carlton North the home of AFLW.

The AFL grand final will also stay at the MCG until at least 2057 under the deal, Premier Daniel Andrews on Thursday evening tweeting: "The game belongs here. And that's where it will stay."
