Crime down but sex offences rise in Vic

March 15, 2018

Police Minister Lisa Neville says Victoria has recorded its biggest drop in crime in 10 years.

Victorian crime continues to drop, but sex offences remain on the rise, new statistics show.

While there has been an overall crime drop, with fewer car thefts, burglaries and drug-related crime, sexual offences have risen 15.9 per cent, data from the Crime Statistics Agency shows.

The number of offences recorded by police in the year to December 2017 was 504,070 - down 8.6 per cent from the 551,662 offences recorded in the same period last year, according to the data released on Thursday.
