The rate of homelessness in Australia has jumped 13.7 per cent in five years, new data reveals.

The rate of homelessness in Australia has jumped 4.6 per cent in five years, new Census data reveals.

More than 116,000 people were experiencing homelessness in Australia on Census night, representing 50 homeless persons for every 10,000 people.

The data, released on Wednesday, is taken from the 2016 Census of Population and Housing.
