The new US Secretary of State is well-known to Australia and the government looks forward to working with him, Treasurer Scott Morrison says.
Mr Morrison thanked Rex Tillerson for his service to the Australian relationship after his sacking by President Donald Trump, and said the decision to replace him with CIA director Mike Pompeo is a matter for the administration.
"The incoming foreign secretary is well known to Australia. The foreign minister only met with him in September of last year. There is an existing relationship there," Mr Morrison told ABC radio on Wednesday.
