March 10, 2018

Former Treasurer Wayne Swan will try to become the Labor Party's next national president in July.

Former treasurer Wayne Swan will run against Labor frontbencher Mark Butler to try to become the party's national president later this year.

Mr Swan, who holds the Brisbane seat of Lilley, on Saturday said he would run for the ALP presidency against incumbent Mr Butler at July's national conference.

"I've got the time, I've got the energy and I've got the organisational and policy experience to beat the Tories," Mr Swan said in a Facebook video announcing his run.
