Labor calls for PM to sack Joyce

Labor moved a motion in parliament calling on Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce to resign.

Shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus has called on Malcolm Turnbull to "immediately sack" Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce over his seeking, and acceptance, of a gift of a rent-free apartment.

Mr Joyce is living with his pregnant girlfriend and former staffer Vikki Campion in the Armidale property provided to him by multi-millionaire friend Greg Maguire. It was declared on his interests register without specifically naming the businessman.

"(The House) ... calls on the prime minister to immediately sack the deputy prime minister for clearly breaching the prime minister's statement of ministerial standards," Mr Dreyfus said, reading the motion on Thursday.
