Old Speaker clears Pitt to replace

February 12, 2018

Queensland LNP has referred Labor's Curtis Pitt to parliament's ethics committee (file).

Queensland's Liberal National Party opposition has called for former Labor Treasurer Curtis Pitt to be referred to Parliament's ethics committee, on the eve of him being sworn in as the new Speaker.

The Labor government stood Mr Pitt down as treasurer following last November's election campaign, but he is due to be nominated as the new Speaker when parliament sits this week.

However the opposition, in a break with convention, looks set to throw a roadblock in that process, asking for Mr Pitt to be referred to the ethics committee.
