Vacancies indicate strength in jobs market

Job vacancies increased in latest official figures, with most demand in the private sector.

The latest official figures show that the number of job vacancies lifted 4.1 per cent between November and August.

Employers in November sought to fill 210,800 positions, with the private sector driving the rise, according to new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Vacancies in the private sector jumped 4.6 per cent to 191,800, while in the public sector vacancies fell 0.7 per cent to 19,000.
