The building boom was softer in December

January 08, 2018

The construction industry is still expanding but at a slower rate.

Construction activity has continued to expand in December thanks to a rise in employment but the industry's overall growth momentum is slowing, new figures show.

The Ai Group and Housing Industry Association Performance of Construction Index (PCI) eased 4.7 points to 52.8 points in December but remained above the 50-point level indicating expansion.

Ai Group head of policy Peter Burn said that while December recorded a pull-back in the pace of activity, pointing to a slowdown in the industry's overall expansion, continued healthy levels of work across the industry will provide a solid start to 2018.
