A specialist investigative unit has been formed to tackle family violence in Victoria.

A specialist investigative unit has been formed to tackle family violence, sexual offences and child abuse in Victoria.

Victoria Police's new Family Violence Investigation Units will comprise of 415 specially trained detectives who will pursue cases of high-risk and escalating family violence and examine cold cases.

The five-year plan, announced on Friday, will work to combat stop the scourge of family violence in Victoria, with police responding to incidents across the state every seven minutes
