Court hiccup over senator replacements

December 08, 2017

High Court hears there are doubts on the eligibility of former senator Jacqui Lambie's replacement.

The High Court will set out how it plans to deal with the cases of three former senators who resigned over their dual citizenship.

The court will hear on Friday from lawyers representing former Senate president Stephen Parry and crossbench senators Jacqui Lambie and Skye Kakoschke-Moore.

Despite them having already resigned, the court needs to determine how their vacancies will be filled - either by a special count of the 2016 Senate election results or, if they are cleared of constitutional issues, a casual vacancy filled by their own parties.
