Eight people have been arrested in Malta charged in connection with the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat says.
In a press briefing on Monday, Muscat said the eight Maltese nationals had been arrested in a joint operation in different localities. Police have 48 hours to interrogate the suspects and press charges.
Muscat said the suspects had been trailed for some time before the arrests were made.
Caruana Galizia was murdered in a car bomb on October 16 in a case which shocked the island nation, a member of the European Union. The assassination triggered off a series of protests in Malta.
