Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls cross paths in Cairns.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls will narrowly avoid crossing paths on the Queensland campaign trail with both parliamentarians beginning the day in Cairns.

Mr Nicholls will touch down in the tourism hotspot on Wednesday morning just hours before the departure of Ms Palaszczuk, who has spent the past two days there pitching her Labor government to regional voters.

The premier will head to Proserpine to make an announcement regarding recovery efforts following Tropical Cyclone Debbie, as well as an initiative to boost tourism and infrastructure jobs in the region.

Both leaders will return to Brisbane by Thursday to face off against each another and One Nation state leader Steve Dickson, in what is expected to be the only major debate ahead of the November 25 poll.
