Dutch solar car team Nuon has taken out the World Solar Challenge from Darwin to Adelaide.

Dutch courage in the sun looks to be paying with the Nuon team's Nuna 9 car set to take victory in the race from Darwin to Adelaide for solar-powered cars.

The team from the Netherlands was just under 300kms from Adelaide at midday on Thursday with a strong lead over second placed car Novum from the University of Michigan with Punch Power from Belgium in third.

It was on track to reach the finish line in Victoria Square on Thursday afternoon to clinch a seventh victory in the World Solar Challenge.
