Man avoids jail for acid in beauty creams

October 12, 2017

Dae Ik Kim has been given a suspended sentence after putting acid in his receptionist's cosmetics.

A Brisbane massage parlour owner who put hydrochloric acid in one of his employee's luxury cosmetic creams has avoided jail time for his "deeply disturbing" conduct.

Dae Ik Kim faced the Brisbane District Court on Thursday, where it was told he put amounts of the corrosive substance in his receptionist's beauty products in August 2015.

Judge Ian Dearden sentenced the Korean man - who the court was told "just lost it" after the woman raised the possibility of quitting - to 10 months behind bars, wholly suspended for a year.
