71 asylum seekers to have support cut

October 12, 2017

Peter Dutton has revealed 71 out of about 7000 asylum seekers haven't responded to his deadline.

Support will be cut to 71 asylum seekers who didn't lodge claims for protection in Australia before an October 1 deadline.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton had given roughly 7000 asylum seekers who arrived by boat a non-negotiable deadline to "lodge it or leave".

"The 71 automatically from now on they're cut off from receiving government benefits throughout the community," he told 2GB radio on Thursday.
