Tougher gun laws for Qld set to go ahead

October 11, 2017

Queensland loots set to tighten restrictions on high-capacity lever action shotguns.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is hopeful proposed tougher gun laws will get passed in state parliament on Wednesday but she expects "a huge fight".

The government moved on Tuesday to change gun regulations, tightening restrictions on high-capacity lever action shotguns in line with an agreement Queensland signed up to at a COAG meeting last December.

Ms Palaszczuk said she expects "robust discussion" on the issue in parliament but hopes all members back her government's proposal.
