Ten million same-sex marriage surveys have been returned to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

More than 62 per cent, or 10 million, same-sex marriage surveys have been returned to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The count includes the number surveys returned as of Friday and shows 800,000 forms had been received since the previous week, the ABS said on Tuesday.

The estimate is based on the bulk containers of returned forms and not a count of individual forms, the statistics agency says.
