Former NT top cop McRoberts to stand trial

October 10, 2017

Former NT police chief John McRoberts is facing court accused of derailing a criminal investigation.

Northern Territory police wiped the phone and iPad of a former police commissioner accused of perverting the course of justice before federal investigators could examine them, a detective has told a court.

John McRoberts is facing a committal hearing in Darwin Local Court over allegations he derailed a criminal investigation into a crooked travel agent who was allegedly his lover.

The Australian Federal Police began their own probe into McRoberts' alleged interference, and Detective Sergeant Stephen Cook said his team attempted to download the top cop's iPhone and iPad records, but when NT police handed them over hey had already been reformatted.
