Bauer Media will appeal the $4.5 million in damages it's been ordered to pay Rebel Wilson.

The publisher of Woman's Day magazine has announced it will appeal the $4.5 million in damages it's been ordered to pay Hollywood movie star Rebel Wilson.

Bauer Media defamed the Pitch Perfect actor in a series of eight articles during 2015 in which it painted the comic star as a serial liar who fabricated untruths about her age, real name and childhood, a Victorian Supreme Court jury found.

In a statement released on Monday, Bauer Media said it would appeal the quantum of damages, which it said "has broad implications for the media industry".
