GST carve-up not just a WA issue:Treasurer

October 09, 2017

Treasurer Scott Morrison says the coalition remains committed to equalising GST distribution.

An interim report by the Productivity Commission is likely to once again fire up the furious row between the states and territories over the GST carve-up.

The report, to be released on Monday, is expected to uphold Western Australia's complaints that it has not received a fair share of the GST, according to The Australian.

WA at present receives just 34.4c on every dollar while the report is expected to recommend it should get 84c.

The commission isn't expected to make any recommendations on gas policy although Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has threatened to cut grants to states such as NSW that don't develop their gas resources.
