Victorian mum-killer appeals life sentence

September 15, 2017

Karen Chetcuti, whose killer Michael Cardamone is appealing against his life sentence.

The man who tortured and murdered regional Victorian mum Karen Chetcuti says his life sentence without parole is too harsh and he's seeking to appeal.

Michael Cardamone, 50, snatched his 49-year-old neighbour from her Whorouly home and held her prisoner for hours before burning her alive in remote bushland in January 2016.

Cardamone was jailed for life with no minimum term in August by a judge who described the murder as "extraordinarily vicious" but the killer has lodged an appeal against the sentence on the grounds it was excessive.
