September 13, 2017

An emergency warning has been declared after a bushfire broke containment lines near Cessnock.

Houses are under threat from an out-of-control bushfire in the NSW Hunter Valley with the RFS issuing an emergency warning.

The Rural Fire Service issued the warning for Richmond Vale, outside Cessnock, on Wednesday after 11am.

The fire has broken containment lines and a number of properties are under threat - so far 381 hectares of bushland have been burned, the RFS website states.

Firefighters are working with aircraft to contain the blaze.
