August 10, 2017

A man has admitted to a Melbourne court that he used an axe to attack his estranged wife.

A man has admitted attacking his estranged wife with an axe, striking her 24 times with the hatchet at a southeast Melbourne beauty parlour.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday to intentionally causing serious injury to the woman in the violent March 27 attack, while prosecutors dropped an attempted murder charge.

The attacker claimed his actions at a Narre Warren shopping centre were spurred by the couple's separation and his wife's relationship with another man.
