Gene Gibson wants $2.5m compensation

The search goes on for the killer of Josh Warneke who was bashed to death in Broome in 2010.

Gene Gibson will seek $2.5 million in compensation for his wrongful conviction and imprisonment over the death of a man.

Mr Gibson, an Aboriginal man from the remote community of Kiwirrkurra, served nearly five years of a seven-and-a-half-year sentence after being convicted of the manslaughter of Josh Warneke, 21, who was bashed while walking home from a night out in Broome in 2010.

Lawyer Michael Lundberg said in an application to the WA treasurer, attorney-general and police minister that Mr Gibson had been unfairly and horribly mistreated
