SA premier won't be lectured by big banks

August 09, 2017

SA Premier Jay Weatherill's controversial bank levy will be debated in parliament on Wednesday.

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill should "cut his losses" and kill off the state's proposed bank tax when the budget measures bill is debated in parliament, Opposition Leader Steven Marshall says.

Mr Marshall says it's time for the government to abandon the tax before it does further damage to the state economy, by driving investment and jobs interstate.

With the big banks also strongly opposed to the measure, Wednesday's debate comes as the Commonwealth Bank revealed a net profit for the past year of $9.9 billion.
