Treasurer seeking options to deal with CBA

August 08, 2017

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann says the government doesn't decide who runs the banks.

The federal government is refusing to buy into to the furore over the Commonwealth Bank's alleged breaches of money-laundering laws.

The CBA has suggested that 53,000 alleged breaches listed in a case brought against it by regulators could be treated as a single matter because they all stemmed from the same IT error.

When asked whether heads should roll at the nation's biggest bank, Finance Minister Mathias Cormann told ABC radio on Tuesday: "The government does not make decisions on who runs the banks."
