Workers exploited in 'jobs black market'

July 17, 2017

An audit of Australian job advertisements has found foreigners are paid below minimum wage.

Vulnerable foreign workers are being paid far below national standards, according to a peak union body in NSW.

A two-year audit of local job advertisements on Chinese, Korean and Spanish websites, released by Unions NSW on Monday, found almost 80 per cent of proposed rates were under the minimum award wage.

Unions NSW Secretary Mark Morey told AAP the audit found a total underpayment of $1.62 million across 200 job advertisements, which amounted to $8000 per business.
