Accused people smuggler in Perth court

July 14, 2017

An alleged people smuggler has faced court after being extradited from Indonesia to Perth.

An accused people smuggler who was extradited from Indonesia on Thursday has faced court in Perth but his case had to be adjourned because no interpreters were available.

Afghan man Ahmad Zia Alizadah appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday on charges of coordinating four illegal boat arrivals involving more than 260 people dating back to 2010 before he was arrested in 2015.

Because no Farsi or Indonesian interpreters were available, magistrate Martin Flynn remanded Alizadah in custody until Monday.
