Tony Glynn QC argued that Meehan should be sentenced to no more than five years in jail.

A former high-profile Queensland solicitor will likely spend at least a year behind bars after pleading guilty to taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash payments from clients.

Tim Meehan, 41, will be sentenced in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday over the four-year long scheme that allowed him to avoid his tax, bankruptcy and reporting obligations.

Defence barrister Tony Glynn argued at a hearing on Thursday that Meehan should be sentenced to no more than five years in jail, suspended after 12 to 18 months in custody.
