Serial baby killer Kathleen Folbigg is appealing against her conviction for assaulting a prisoner.

Notorious serial baby killer Kathleen Folbigg is challenging her conviction for the April assault of another inmate in a fight over a toaster.

The 50-year-old is serving a minimum 25-year-sentence at Mulawa Correctional Centre after being convicted in 2003 of the murder of three of her babies and of the manslaughter of a fourth, in the decade from 1989.

Her appeal over the prison assault was mentioned in the Downing Centre District Court in Sydney on Wednesday and will be heard at a later date in Newcastle.
