State govts commit to renewable target

July 13, 2017

Al Gore says a plan from Labor state governments for zero net emissions by 2050 is "impressive".

Labor governments in Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the ACT have joined a former US vice-president in declaring they'll lead the country towards zero net carbon emissions.

The declaration follows a meeting between Al Gore and state energy ministers on Thursday when they discussed how their governments were acting to mitigate the impact of climate change.

ACT Climate Change Minister Shane Rattenbury said the climate leadership declaration reaffirmed that while the federal government had so far failed to deliver a clean energy future, states and territories, investors, and communities were "getting the job done".
