Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has urged the commonwealth to back more projects in SA.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has urged Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to show more love to South Australia.

Mr Shorten came to Adelaide on Wednesday to announce Labor support for an irrigation project in the city's north.

He says Mr Turnbull should follow Labor's lead and back the project and should also back other initiatives in SA, including the electrification of an Adelaide train line.
