July 12, 2017

The employment of a pedophile as a rail worker will be investigated by Victoria's Ombudsman.

The employment and board appointments of a former Victorian rail official and convicted paedophile will be investigated by the state's Ombudsman.

Robert Whitehead, 84, was a government rail worker and a volunteer with the heritage steam train Puffing Billy when he assaulted six young train enthusiasts in the 1960s, '70s and '80s, before dying in jail in 2015.

The Victorian Ombudsman will investigate Whitehead's re-employment at Victorian Railways, leasing of state-owned properties from Victorian Railways, appointment as secretary of Puffing BIlly Preservation Society and his volunteer positions within those organisation.
