Iddles wants 'truer picture' of Vic crime

July 12, 2017

A former homicide detective says Victoria's crime should be measured by the harm it causes.

Crime should be measured by the harm it causes if there is to be a meaningful change, says former Victoria Police homicide detective Ron Iddles.

Mr Iddles is watching over the state government's implementation of its community safety statement, a strategy to drive down crime across Victoria, with his first report to be released on Wednesday.

A points system for crime categories should be created to measure the harm done to the community and better direct resources, Mr Iddles told 3AW radio.
