Qld premier faces howls over Adani mine

July 12, 2017

Opponents of Adani's coal mine in Queensland have briefly interrupted a meeting held by the premier.

Protesters fighting Adani's new mega coal mine in Queensland have interrupted the premier's town hall meeting in Cairns.

Opponents chanted "no, no, no" after Annastacia Palaszczuk was questioned about her government's support for the mine, on the same day it announced a plan to fight climate change by cutting Queensland's carbon emissions.

The plan aims to "de-carbonise" the state's energy sector, but the premier told protesters it would make no change to Adani's plan to mine and export Queensland coal to be burnt in India.
