WA police 'in the trenches' in pay dispute

July 11, 2017

WA Police are issuing cautions for minor offences instead of fines as part of an industrial dispute.

The WA Police Union has warned it will launch a third phase of industrial action if its wage demands aren't met, saying the state government broke an election promise for a 1.5 per cent pay rise.

President George Tilbury said a one-off $1000 pay increase for all public servants was instead offered mid-way through negotiations with police, which 88 per cent of members rejected, and officers are now issuing cautions for minor offences after deciding to work-to-rule last month.

"We've already dug the trenches and we're ready to go for as long as it takes," Mr Tilbury told ABC radio on Tuesday.
