Queensland's Liberal National Party has accused the Palaszczuk government of over-estimating.

Queensland's Liberal National Party has accused the Palaszczuk government of over-estimating the need for its flagship Cross River Rail project.

Deputy Opposition Leader said the government's decision to fund construction of the $5.4 billion project itself rather than wait a couple of years for possible support from the federal government was undermined by official figures showing fewer people were using trains.

Since 2010/11 rail patronage on the southeast Queensland network has dropped from 55 million people to 51.1 million people, according to the government's own numbers.
