A Mongolian man who allegedly raped a British tourist on the Gold Coast has faced court.

A Mongolian man who allegedly raped a British tourist on the Gold Coast has been granted bail.

The man appeared via video-link at Southport Magistrates Court on one count of rape and one count of supplying dangerous drugs after the alleged incident at a Surfers Paradise hotel in January 2016.

The court heard the man, who was studying in Australia at the time of the alleged rape, is likely to be detained by immigration officials upon his release from custody and may be deported before any criminal proceedings are resolved.
