The chief of the Business Council of Australia is standing firm on her view the federal government should get on with legalising same-sex marriage.

Jennifer Westacott is one of more than 30 high-profile executives penning a letter to the prime minister - action which prompted a strong spray from Cabinet minister Peter Dutton about the "fringe" issue.

"That's his opinion - we're all entitled to our views," Ms Westacott told ABC radio on Friday, insisting no one has been arguing harder for other issues such as tax reform than her.
