No division on capital gains tax: Cormann

February 17, 2017

The finance minister has dismissed a report the coalition is split over the capital gains tax.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann has dismissed out of hand a report the coalition is split over whether to cut capital gains tax concessions for property investors.

"We have no plans and no intentions to reduce capital gains discounts," he told Sky News as he noted the prime minister and treasurer had said the same thing.

Last year, Mr Morrison flagged changes to curb the "excesses" of negative gearing but lost the internal argument to more conservative colleagues including Senator Cormann, the Australian Financial Review said on Friday.
